Part-Time General Studies Teacher
Job Type: Part Time
Teach Alongside a Team That Has Your Back
We’re looking for a general studies teacher to join our elementary faculty. This is a 20-hour-per-week position where you’ll work side-by-side with dedicated Hebrew and Judaic Studies teachers—a true teaching team where you plan together, support each other, and share the joys (and challenges) of your students.
The Role
You’ll teach general studies subjects to elementary students, building the kind of relationships that make learning stick. You’ll ground your instruction in state standards while weaving lessons into thematic units that feel connected and alive. You’ll partner closely with families—parents here are engaged and supportive, and strong home-school relationships are central to how we work. And you’ll collaborate daily with teammates who believe that knowing your students well is the foundation of good teaching.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience teaching elementary-aged students
- A relational approach to teaching—you build trust with kids and families, and it shows in your classroom
- Skill at balancing standards-based instruction with creative, thematic planning
- Strong classroom instincts: organized, warm, and adaptable
- Excitement about collaborating closely with teaching partners
- Comfort in a Jewish day school environment (you won’t teach Jewish studies, but you’ll be part of a school where Jewish life shapes the day)
What We Offer
- Competitive compensation
- A close-knit school community (~70 students) where you’ll know every student and family
- Teaching partners who you’ll actually want to work with
- Families who show up, partner with you, and appreciate what you do
- An environment of possibility—room to grow, experiment, and make the classroom your own
This position is contingent upon a successful background check.

Director of Development
In 1974, a small group of dedicated Jewish community members with an ambitious vision gathered to discuss the possible establishment of a Jewish day school in Ann Arbor. The group’s dream became reality when the Hebrew Day School of Ann Arbor opened in the fall of 1975 with a class of 12 “gansters” (kindergartners). In 1995, HDS began a Hebrew immersion program, which has become a model for day schools nationwide.
