Long-Term Substitute Teacher (General Studies)

Job Type:  Maternity Leave Coverage Hebrew Day School of Ann Arbor

Step Into a Classroom That’s Already Thriving

We’re looking for a skilled substitute teacher to cover a maternity leave in our elementary general studies program. You’ll take the reins of an established classroom, maintain momentum with a curriculum already in motion, and keep students engaged and growing while their regular teacher is out.

The Role

You’ll teach general studies subjects to an elementary classroom for approximately [8–12 weeks, starting in X]. You’ll follow established curriculum and routines while bringing your own warmth and energy to the room. You’ll collaborate with grade-level partners and specialists to keep instruction seamless, and you’ll communicate regularly with families to maintain the strong home-school connection our community values.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience teaching elementary-aged students
  • The ability to step into an existing classroom culture and earn students’ trust quickly
  • Strong classroom management instincts—calm, consistent, and kind
  • Flexibility and a collaborative mindset
  • Comfort in a Jewish day school environment (teaching Jewish studies is not part of this role, but you’ll be part of a school where Jewish life is woven into the day)

What We Offer

  • Competitive daily or long-term sub rate
  • A small, supportive school community (~70 students) where you’ll know every kid’s name
  • Colleagues who will set you up for success

This position is contingent upon a successful background check.

Director of Development

In 1974, a small group of dedicated Jewish community members with an ambitious vision gathered to discuss the possible establishment of a Jewish day school in Ann Arbor. The group’s dream became reality when the Hebrew Day School of Ann Arbor opened in the fall of 1975 with a class of 12 “gansters” (kindergartners). In 1995, HDS began a Hebrew immersion program, which has become a model for day schools nationwide.
